We Are Your Community
We know that feeling of excitement, getting the first piece that would incite your fascination with rocks, yet no one to share it with. No one understands. Some dismissing our finding as just some common stone with weird indentations on them. Others simply don’t care. There are also those who love us enough to care, just going with the beauty of it but without the real enthusiasm.
Been there, done that. Perhaps, many could relate that this is a common scenarion for budding rockhounders. While others took this in stride, even taking this as an inspiration to work harder to pursue this interest, there are others who tamp down their fascination to hide their embarrassment over the incident. Especially to youngsters, the latter could be heartbreaking.
We do not want other newbie rockhounders to feel the same thing. As such, we created this community to support them.
Knowledge in Rocks
Rockhounding could be equated to being little geologists. We have the same interests in rocks as them; we have the same passion; we collect and would like to study minerals like them, but more amateur compared to the knowledge they have. However, you could take additional studies to be like them, if you want to make a career out of it.
Rocks are all around us. It is often taken for granted because it can be found everywhere, just outside your home, your front yard or your installed garage door in Albuquerque. What most people fail to take into consideration is that rocks are unique in their own ways. The colors, texture, and even iridescent quality of rocks tell us something about how they are made of. We learned in school that there are many different types of rocks, how they are formed, and the natural elements that contribute to what they are already when we found them. But to get a sample of each and everything and to know that something more is going through them, this is epic. And the mineral contained to them? Outstanding.
That’s not all, rocks are an effective history recorder as artifacts. The things embedded in them are proof that somehow, something we have no idea of today, has existed a long time ago. Although this is not an everyday occurence for us Rockhounders, it is not beyond our reach especially if we live in those countries with known historical breakthroughs the change the world. In fact, even the rock discoveries in our backyards are good enough for is to make a difference.
The problem now is where to get as much information to tell them apart. That is what we aim to provide to you now. We have so much information in this site without confusing your minds. But just in case you guys have more questions, we have many professional geologists who have lots of experience in rocks who make this site as a hangout. They are always willing to help if you would just ask.
